Tech Support Issue:
For all users of interfaces that include the CTR-05
counter timer board:
Originally this board was based on the
AMD 9513 chip. About 2 years ago AMD stopped making this chip and
Measurement Computing (formally known as Computer Boards Inc.) started
using "compatible" chips made by other manufacturers. These chips
have some bugs in them that cause various timimg problems when used
with ProLase. Measurement Computing is working with the chip
manufacturers to solve these problems. They have assured us that
their goal is for the "compatibles" to work exactly the same as the
original 9513. In the mean time they have aquired a supply of the
original AMD 9513 chips for use by our customers. When you order the
CTR-05 card (either ISA or PCI), please specify in your order that the
card be shipped with a real AMD 9513. If you already have the CTR-05
with a "compatible" and are having problems with the marks, return the
card to Measurement Computing and ask them to replace the chip.
Some of the symptoms with
the "compatible" chips include missing vectors (whole or part),
incorrect START SEG, incorrect FPS and problems marking bitmaps (greyscale
and B/W modes). We have checked with other board manufactures, but
they all have the same problem since they all had to start using the
"Compatibles". Therefor we are going to stay with our recommendation
of using Measurement
