Here is another great video from Jimani showing Prolase 7 Plus Laser Marking Software marking on a cylindrical object. The Jimani Langolier 50 watt fiber laser marking system used a 254 mm lens to create this laser mark.
If you are interested you can download and play with the ProLase 7 demo. The upgrade from ProLase XP to ProLase 7 (or ProLase XP PLUS to ProLase 7 PLUS) is easy. To upgrade you simply send us your USB lock, we will program it to run ProLase 7, and it will still run your old ProLase XP software. ProLase 7 can read all older ProLase user files including job, material, fixture and configuration files. If you have any questions please let us know.

ProLase 7 includes a new "Rich Text" editor that allows for direct input of text in any supported Window's language (i.e. Chinese, Arabic, etc.). Like Word or other rich text editors you can cut and paste text from almost any document.
You can mix alignments, text size, languages and fonts as you like within the editor. The result is one ProLase object that behaves just like a fixed text object using Window's Kerning, allowing you to position, size, rotate, or change aspect of the object using the normal ProLase tools.
At any time you can return to the Rich Text editor and modify the original document. The editor also allows you to "open" .RTF documents created by other programs that can create .RTF files (Word for example). If the opened document is multi-page, only the first page is used to create the ProLase object. The end result is a ProLase fixed text object that can be manipulated just like a Window's font, using Window's kerning.

ProLase 7 has a new surface distortion correction feature that allows for marking around cylinders and spherical surfaces without surface curvature distortions. This features allows for distortion free marking of up to 160 degrees around curved surfaces when used with materials that are not extremely sensitive to laser focal point.
ProLase 7 Plus has a new "AutoTile" feature that allows images to be broken up into rectangular tiles and marked on a system equipped with XY tables. The tables are moved to the correct position for each tile. The end result is a complete marked image, whose size is limited by the extents of the XY table area, and is not limited by the lens field size. This feature requires an accurate, collinear mounting of the external axis relative to the galvo axis. It also requires a well calibrated, distortion corrected galvo head, otherwise there will be visible seams where the tiles meet.
ProLase7 Plus "Autotile" can also be used to mark any image completely around a cylinder. The size of the tiles is in degrees specified by the user. Combined with the ProLase 7 surface distortion correction feature, large tile sizes (up to 120 degrees) can be used to speed up the process.
Click here to read the Jimani post about this feature in action.
Below is a video of Jimani marking a cylinder with the Prolase 7 Plus Distortion Correction and Rotary Tiling features. ProLase 7 PLUS has "Auto Tile" capability. This means ProLase 7 PLUS can mark images that are larger than the lens field area. ProLase 7 PLUS automatically breaks the image up into tiles, and moves the external axis to position to each tile location. This works with XY table systems and around cylinders with a rotational axis. The user simply specifies the tile size (any rectangle for X/Y, and number of degrees for rotational).
The material being laser etched with the logo is black, anodized aluminum.

American LaserWare and Software Mechanics Pty Ltd have teamed up to design a better solution for getting graphics from popular drawing programs into Prolase. This capability requires the installation of a custom print driver. To create a ProLase compatible file the user simply "prints" from the drawing program to a file through the custom ProLase print driver.
Instead of using importers that require extensive knowledge of a large variety of formats, and continous updating to keep up with frequent format changes, this technique allows for a large variety of drawing programs to produce ProLase's internal graphic format. When programs update their format, this technique continues to work without change as long as the updated program still has a "print" function. In other words instead of us learning all of their formats we can teach them to produce ours...

This technique works with almost any Window's program the produces vectors and has a "print" function including popular drawing programs like Autocad, AI, and Corel but also many other programs including Word, Notepad, Wordpad, Quickbooks, Open Office, etc.
